How Not to Waste Your Time

Once you have found your purpose and are ready to move towards it or even if you’re still figuring it out, it’s important to give your brain some guidance, some direction. Otherwise, it will stay on autopilot, doing what it’s always done. You’ll want to set some goals for yourself.

I like to set goals because it helps me to have some direction and focus in my life. I have not always done this. When I didn’t set goals, I would look up and a new year would be approaching and I would feel like I’d wasted an entire year. Time is our most valuable asset (even more than money). And I don’t like feeling like I’m wasting it.

I also don’t always feel like setting goals. I just don’t. First of all, it takes effort and I’d rather watch TV or take a nap or scroll through Instagram. Secondly, my brain doesn’t want to set goals because then I’ll be obligated to actually reach those goals. That means I’ll have to do the work. My brain doesn’t like work. It likes what’s easy, and what’s easy is what it’s always done — not set goals and just coast through life with no direction. Sound familiar?

But man! The satisfaction and pride I feel for accomplishing a goal I set for myself is so worth it. It outweighs any and all of the drama that I’d gone through on the way there. I be like “YASSSS, GIRL, YOU DID THAT!!” Do you talk to yourself like that? Just me? Oh.

Not to mention the automatic growth that comes from working towards your goals and pushing yourself past your comfort zones. Seriously, the person I have to become and the feelings of fear and inadequacy that I have to overcome in the process is mind blowing.

Goal setting is very important so that you know where you’re going. You might not know exactly how you’re going to get there, but it will give you some focus and direction. And it helps to show you who you are. I promise you that you’ll be surprised at what you’re capable of.

In the next post, I’m going to talk about how to set goals.

In the meantime, if you don’t know what your purpose is, I have a few simple questions that will help get you there. Let’s chat when you’re ready.
