What does it mean to be fulfilled?
Fulfilled is a feeling of satisfaction or happiness.
I want to highlight that fulfilled is a feeling. It’s important to understand that feelings are created by how we think. When we are unfulfilled, it means that we are thinking thoughts that make us feel the opposite of happy or satisfied.
When it comes to your career, what kind of thoughts do you think? You’ll know by the way that you feel. Are there feelings of satisfaction or are there feelings of dread?
If you’re anything like I was, it was mostly feelings of dread and unhappiness. Here was the culprit thought: “This is not what I’m supposed to be doing.”
Although, it felt so true for me at the time, that thought was holding me back on so many levels. First of all, I was taking it from job to job so I kept getting the same result of being unfulfilled. Secondly, I was not opening myself up to other opportunities because I was arguing with the reality that I was absolutely doing what I was supposed to be doing…at that time.
Once I identified the thought and worked through why I was choosing to think that, I was able to change it to a better thought that gave me the result of feeling fulfilled.
Find the thought that is causing you to feel unhappy or unsatisfied at work. What are you thinking about yourself and about your job? Ask yourself why you’re choosing to think about yourself or the job (that’s affording you your current lifestyle) this way. Then decide how you want to think about yourself and your job and do that. It will change your life.
