How to Stop Negative Emotions

Think about the worst feeling in the world.

Rejection, heartbreak, embarrassment, humiliation, shame, etc. Whatever it is for you, just imagine what that feels like. Does your heart start beating fast, your face get hot, your palms get sweaty, your voice get shaky? Ugh, it’s awful. Everything closes in around you. It feels like the whole world is crashing down on you and it feels like you’re gonna die.

Negative emotion just feels bad. There’s no getting around it. We think we can avoid it by avoiding certain situations, but life has a way of making us face ourselves. Because even though you avoid that situation and nobody else knows it, YOU will know it and your brain will make sure of it. Lol.

The good news is that feelings are harmless. They are sensations in our bodies that sometimes show up in the physical (sweaty palms, shaky voice, etc.). We likely won’t be in any physical pain. And we won’t die. We’ll feel very uncomfortable though.

Here’s the thing. It’s easy for people to say “Go after your dreams! Take risks! Live your life!” The real real is that, that shiznit is hard. And freakin’ scary. Period. Nobody wants to feel any of it.

And at the same time, even though we don’t want to feel it, some of us are willing to feel it because we know that what’s on the other side of those feelings is worth it. It’s kinda like not wanting to work out, but being willing to do it anyway because the results are so worth it.

Yes, it will be scary. Yes, it will be major uncomfortable. Yes, it will suck. You just get to decide if it’s worth it to you.
