This past weekend I attended my sixth Poshfest, held in Phoenix, Arizona. Poshfest is an annual conference held by Poshmark. If you don’t know what Poshmark is, well let me tell you. It’s mainly an app used to buy and sell fashion and more recently, home goods. But it’s mainly driven by its community. It has a huge social aspect to it and I’ve made lifelong friends that I talk to outside of the app and I look forward to seeing every year at Poshfest.
I went to Poshfest with a different mindset this year. Instead of going in looking for ways that I could make more sales to make more money, I went in looking for different ways that I can serve my buyers as well as the Poshmark community as a whole.
And what this confirmed for me is that when you focus on serving others, the money will come.
Poshmark Founder and CEO, Manish Chandra, reaffirmed it when he talked about how the heart of Poshmark is about service to others. You see, the way the app is built, the more you share other people’s items, the more exposure your items get because they then share your items to their followers and then those followers share to their followers and so on. So it levels the playing field for everybody to make sales and make money as long as we’re sharing the love to each other.
Even beyond the sales, we lift each other up with whatever challenges or opportunities we’re facing. It’s amazing the number of posts that I see requesting prayers and encouragement for each other within the app. You can just feel the love. And at Poshfest, you get to hear several people tell their inspiring stories of how Poshmark has changed or saved their lives. Bring out the Kleenex!
It’s nothing short of amazing. And it was nothing short of amazing that my purpose is connected to Poshmark’s purpose, which explains why I’m so drawn to the app.
