Why You Don’t Find Your Purpose

“Purpose and meaning are not specific things to eventually go and achieve. You won’t find your purpose when you get that better job or better house or better relationship. Purpose and meaning have already been given to you by the creator of all the world. You just have to accept it and live in it.” – CV North America

You don’t have to do anything in order to have purpose and meaning. You just get to be you in all your unique goodness and (let’s be real) not so goodness. That is your purpose.

I know that this can be a hard concept to grasp, especially because we’ve been conditioned to believe that there is something out there that we need to achieve in order to find meaning. So when we don’t know what that purpose is or how to achieve it, we feel lost.

This is not to say that we can’t desire a job that is meaningful and impactful. For sure, that was my goal. When I believed that God created me for His purposes (not mine), then I was able to feel purposeful. When I felt purposeful (like I had purpose), I was able to follow the desires that He placed in my heart. Then all of a sudden, I ended up doing work that is more meaningful and impactful to me than anything else in the world.

So it’s not about finding our purpose. It’s about believing and accepting that God’s purposes for us have already been fulfilled. And then acting on our desires like we know it’s exactly what He would want us to do with it.
